Lathi weapons and clean tech

First meeting of the morning was with Heidi. She was a former GSE participant to Vancouver and Seattle. She spoke to us about firearms in Finland. she discussed the different policies and checks that her organization does in concert with local municipalities. Finland has strict rules on who can be given a firearm permit as well as background checks. That permit can be revoked if one is convicted of drunk driving or aggravated assault, after which the government will dispose of the weapon.

After our first meeting we went on an tour of some areas of Lahti, this was the firehouse that is contaminated with mold which makes the firefighters sick but since it is a historical building they can't bulldoze it or do extensive renovations. The city has chosen to build new facilities while deciding what to do with the building.

In case you wondered what Finnish housing looks like. Here it is.

In the mall they had a store, for men, or male.

Angry Birds are from Finland!

I can fit! Just might fall flat on my back getting out.

Lahti Science and Business Park where they promote clean tech, environmental studies and industrial design.

The cafeteria, I think the ascetics are wonderful.

Ladec, we had our second meeting here. We learned how the company (a branch of the city government) tries to create a working business environment and attract businesses to Lahti. They give free services to the companies that they work with and help start-ups flourish.

Everyone got a chance to sit in the chair. This was made by a local artist.

You could hear yourself talking in there.

Pekka, the soon to be returning police officer.

Our Finnish guides.

This looked like a wall but was just hanging fabric used to divide up the room.

Pekka, asking if he looked alright in the goggles.

About to head into Romboll's lab.

Pretty!

Ilho gave us a tour of the Romboll labs where they test and analyze various samples they are sent. They primarily work with water and soil samples.
