Jyvaskyla Day 3

So, apologizes to all those clubs/days/events that I was unable to update on. I hope to have internet in the next few days to do that. But for right now let's get back to what happened today.

Started out the day at Game and Fisheries Research Center. This is where they breed fish for consumption but also as stock fish. They also work on providing a sustainable fishing environment in Finland and the Baltic Sea. They have a variety of fish that they breed, including salmon, trout and whitefish.

Our special foot booties when walking into the buildings.

Fries, or very young fish babies.

Steve is checking out the older fish, about three years old. These fish are breeding fish and their eggs will be used to create new stocks of fish.

Heidi, our very un-Finnish Rotarian guide. She was on a GSE program to Arkansas a few years ago.

Anime Weiping!

As per Teresa's request. It was an interesting tour.

So Jyvaskyla has been amazing at having Rotarians join us on our trips. They have given us many people to take along with us! Antero, Kari, Pekka's son, Pekka and Heidi, from left to right.

Weiping is ready for this adventure!

Weather gear is a go.

The group ready to raft, in the rain.

This is a smoke sauna (in Finland they have more than one type). They have the room fill up with smoke for a few hours. Then air it out through a window or hole in the ceiling for a few hours. Then it is ready to sweat in.  This type is supposed to be the best, giving the softest heat.

Rafting in Finland, a day after the season opened. Don't worry folks it was like this for less than a minute.

Next we went to Ficote which is a company that builds specialized cleaning trucks. They build trucks to clean sewers, clean trash bins and also clean glass bottles.

This is a sewer cleaning truck getting ready to head out.

Steve is ready to head out.

After all today's activities we came to Hotel Peurunka. This hotel is a spa hotel but also works as a rehabilitation center for those still in the workforce. They have many facilities to cater to their needs. This pool area has a large wading pool and other smaller pools to facilitate that. Also there was a three story high water slide, so it functions beyond that capacity too.

The dining hall at the spa.

Over looking the frozen lake, which happens to be a similar view from the balcony of our hotel rooms.
