Lahti

We were met at our hotel and taken to Lahti City hall.

Eila and Virpi took us from the hotel and went with us on our tour.

Spiral staircase to the second floor of the city hall. Gugind style or in English Art Nouveau, it is a very ornate style that is not popular in Finland any longer.

Niko the District Governor who gave us a tour of the hall. Having semi-retired recently he is enjoying his ability to be a city guide.

Steve had to take the big man's chair in the chamber room.

Weiping, junior council member.

The Lahti Chamber Hall. Occasionally the city inhabitants would host formal balls in this room.

Us girls and Steve signing ourselves into the Lahti guestbook. After this we went down to the basement cafeteria for lunch (which also was previously a jail).

Group photo.
After this we decided to take in some of the sights of Lahti, which included the lake. Which is still frozen but now thawing and covered in a few millimeters of water.

We also visited the Sibelius Concert Hall, named after a famous Finnish composer who was born in Hameenlinna. This place was incredibly quiet and I wish I could see a concert here, the resonance would be fantastic.
