Hameenlina

Today we met with the Valkeakoski Rotarians for lunch at the Gingerbread house.
Built in 1906-1907 by a local merchant there used to be a department store right next door.

The outside resembled a gingerbread house as well.

As we trekked off to the Artillery Museum we took this photo next to the frozen lake.

The view of the Artillery Museum.

Steve was kind enough to explain many of the guns, shells and artillery pieces to us.
At the museum we also watched a movie that helped explain how Finland repelled the Soviet Union's forces in 1944, at the same time that D-day was happening in France.

Steve and Asko exchanging flags before we said goodbye to our Valkeakoski hosts.
Asko and Jouni "Yoni" were very kind about giving us time to breath after our journey to Finland.
And Mervi was very informative about Finnish culture.
Thank you to all three!

Dinner down the street with Hameenlinna Rotarians Timo and Anne.
This place was spacious (and a former bank), but we had the place almost to ourselves.
Finns apparently eat in most nights. Steve claimed to see me being naughty with a suit of armor, but a girl never tells!
Tomorrow will be a action packed day with Timo as he gives us an inside tour of the Hameenlina Water Supply and Sewage.
