Jyvaskyla Last Day

Today was Veteran's Day here in Finland, so we went to the local event.
This included the Finnish President Sauli  Niinisto, He's under the umbrella. This picture was captured as he went inside to prepare for the day's ceremony.

They had military equipment on display.

We partook of traditional Finnish military rations. Every Thursday they serve pea soup for lunch.

Steve enjoying his soup.

The only picture I got from the hall. The lady next to me was very insistent that I was not allowed to take photos because it interfered with the television cameras. There was a band, men's and boy's choir and a number of speeches, including one by the president.

This is what the train area of Jyvaskyla looks like. It was rainy and cold today.

After the ceremony we headed to club president Antero's farm.

Traditional Finnish felt shoes.

The farm was established in 1561, this house was built in the 1840's.

Antero, on the right, is the 15th generation to own the farm, his son is the 16th. He gave us some of the history of his family and explained that this house will become a museum.

He had five spinster aunts. All were very crafty, many of the articles in the house were made by one or more of the aunts.

The view of the lake from where we are staying in Petajavesi.

The hotel we are staying at also has an elderly living facility attached to the side.
